Content of Swim School and Curricullum

In swim school we work in steps:
1. Breath control-it's important for children to be able to hold their breath under water. We show them how to control their breath. We do not initially teach the children to let their breath out in the water because this can become confusing to the children. When they blow out they also suck in.

2. Body awareness-this is where children learn and understand how their bodies feel in the water. They are taught how to manipulate the water and navigate through it.

3. Back floats- in swim school we are implementing the concept of turning in the water from front to back. In case of an emergency children will be able to control their bodies and turn to their back and float until help is available.

4. Stroke development- we focus on the beginning of stream line kicks. Beginning with floats, kicking, face submerged in water while floating and kicking. Once the child has completed these steps we teach them freestyle arms and then breathing.

Children learn at different paces. Some children are completely comfortable in the water and able to perform many of the tasks with ease. Other children come to swimming with bad past experiences or cautious personalities, our team of teachers are sensitive to each child's needs and abilities.
